A French Blonde is a light and refreshing gin-based cocktail that has the perfect balance of sweet and tart. The grapefruit juice rounds out the St‑Germain Elderflower Liqueur and Bombay Sapphire gin to create a perfect marriage of sweet, citrus, and botanical flavors.
Despite recently gaining significant popularity, the drink has some conflict with when it originated. Some say the French Blonde cocktail was first made in the 1920s, whilst others say the gin-based drink is much more modern – either way, we’re sure that we’ll be seeing a lot more of it in the future!
With a delicious blend of botanical, citrus, and floral notes, the perfect balance of sweetness and tartness creates a drink that is as perfect in winter as in the summer months.
Due to the low volume of liquid a French Blonde is best served in a martini or coupe glass. Pair your cocktail with sweet berries or desserts to complement the elderflower liqueur, or contrast with citrus fruits. Similarly, seafood or spicy dishes pair well and contrast with the grapefruit juice.
